Tools for Remote Ag Consulting

As technology continues to provide more and more tools for virtual conversations, ag consultants need to consider a wide array of options for providing their services and staying connected to their clients. During a recent “Shop Talk” webinar sponsored by ASAC, Russell Morgan led a discussion of the different ways that our members are using these digital tools.
Some of the tools included the common ones such as Zoom, GoToMeeting, and Teams. There are some tools that are perhaps less common and becoming used more often include:
Calendly: A tool for scheduling meetings for groups and individuals without having to send several e-mails back and forth. A confirmation e-mail and link are sent when the meeting is confirmed.
Slack: Works like Teams and includes file storage and sharing, chat rooms organized by topic, and the ability to imbed the consultant within appropriate teams on the system.
AgVisor Pro: Links the needs of clients to different consultants on a range of topics. The consultant can answer a brief, specific question or develop a broader relationship with the client.
Wrike: A project management tool that offers a way to create custom workflows to keep your team on the same page. It includes Gantt Charts, timelines, work updates, outcomes and analysis of results.
The webinar featured Scott Schmidt with Conservis Farm Management Software who provided insights on how management software is growing more comprehensive and user-friendly for farm operations. Significant investment is pouring into these systems from some of the largest companies in the world who want to facilitate the exchange of information between knowledge leaders and businesses. The businesses get access to key information for their operation and the management company provides services that help the business become more efficient and productive.
