Why Hire a Consultant?
10/24/2020

Before becoming a management and executive coach I spent 16 years managing agricultural operations.  During those 16 years I hired a variety of consultants that included building engineers, ventilation specialists, crop consultants, veterinarians, marketing and financial advisers.  Though I often had differences of opinion with them, I learned valuable information from each one and they were worth every penny that I invested in their advice.
Here are some of the main reasons to hire a consultant:
  • Information overload. No one can keep up with all the information currently available on a particular topic. You can gain great value from individuals who have a keen focus on topics important to your business.
  • Efficiency.  Using advisors in strategic areas, entrepreneurs and business leaders can spend more of their precious time focused on their business.
  • Avoiding mistakes. What did your last mistake cost you? How much would you pay now to have avoided that mistake and used the best option the first time?
  • Learning from others. Consultants provide a compilation of the best ideas of many businesses and successful business leaders.
  • Knowing what actually works. They have seen different theories, strategies and practices tried in multiple situations and will share those results so you can have confidence in what is being advised.
  • Reputation. Private consultants have their reputation on the line with every piece of advice they provide. If they’ve been an advisor for many years, they’ve earned the privilege of giving you advice that you can trust.
  • Broad network. Many consultants have relationships with other professionals that they trust. This broadens your access to the best information currently known in a variety of disciplines.
  • No question overlooked. The best advisers will not only give you appropriate advice, they make sure that every important question gets raised so you can be confident in the decision you are making.
  • Remove emotion from decisions. Many times in business management there are a wide variety of options which all seem to have equal value and potential outcomes.  And advisor will help you sift through all those options in a very pragmatic and logical manner to help ensure that the very best decision is made.
