ASAC Conference Review: Fresno Farm Bureau CEO’s Presentation
12/04/2023
During the ASAC Annual Conference in Fresno in early November one of the most informative and thought-provoking presentations was provided by Ryan Jacobsen, CEO of the Fresno County Farm Bureau. An engaging and passionate speaker, Ryan covered a wide range of topics crucial to the agricultural interests of Fresno County, their challenges with water rights and availability, and the need to keep small family farms producing crops.
Fresno County, if it were a state, would produce more than 26 of the other United States. This county produces two-thirds of the nation’s fruit, one-third of the nation’s vegetables and most of the nation’s nuts.
It was interesting to learn that of the water available from all sources in California, 50% is uncaptured, 30.5% is captured, but reserved for environmental uses, 15% is captured and used for agricultural purposes, and 4.5% of the captured water goes to urban uses. This means that 80.5% of the water available in California is used for environmental uses. If the water was captured and allowed to be used for purposes other than environmental, there would be no drought in California.
The ASAC Annual Conference consistently offers speakers like Ryan as a key element of their offerings, as well as tours, networking and other events that bring members of the consulting community together to promote our profession. You can learn more about ASAC at
