At the Conference: Media Relations in Your Spare Time
01/16/2025

Pam Caraway brought her 40-plus year career as an Ag Communications Professional to the 2024 ASAC Conference in Ft. Myers, Florida to help the audience of Ag Consultants become more effective in their media relations.
Pam began by explaining the “Three C’s” to establish your brand: Credible, Concise and Consistent. In the context of being interviewed by the media about our company, services, or our opinion, credibility means that we “stick to our wheelhouse” or what we know best. Being concise involves “sticking to the subject,” and being consistent is to return their call, answer their e-mail and being mindful of any deadlines that the writer or interviewer has for their piece.

Often, writers will offer the opportunity for us to review the article. When we are extended this courtesy, and it is simply a courtesy for them to do this, we need to remember that it is only for fact-checking and a technical review of the content. We should never do any other editing of the writer’s work.

These simple guidelines can help ag consultants be seen as credible, knowledgeable professionals who help ensure that articles about agriculture provide accurate information to the readers of a host of publications.
